Slowly winding down watching our grandchildren’s sports activities, playing golf and traveling a little. Hope to go to the Nationals Bowling tournament in Billings, Montana in 2002, if our health holds out. We still work the same hours, but get only about half as much done. Taking some new pills that helps you remember better. I hope this isn’t happening to you.
Lois Babcock Halsey (Neal)
2044 Forest Park Drive
Billings, Montana 59102
We have lived in Billings since 1965. After we were married in 1950, we lived on a farm, south of Lindsay for 15 years. We have two daughters and two sons who were born while we were on the farm.
After moving to Billings, Neal drove truck for 28 years and I worked on and off during that time. We have 9 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren. Our family is the source of greatest joy and happiness (most of the time). Retirement has been traveling which we really enjoy, and do as often as we can.

Dick and I have been married 45 years. We are both retired from 31 years of teaching. We have built our new home in Sequim, Wash. We have two daughters and three grandchildren. Dick and I spend our summers in Sequim and our winters in Mesa, Arizona.
Harry Becker (Shirley)

Gaylord, Michigan 49735
First of all, I want to wish everyone a “Happy 50th”. What has happened to us during the last 10 years??? The number one thing is that we have 5 wonderful grandchildren ranging from 9 to 1½ yrs. Everyone is healthy and doing fine. After 47 years, I retired from the oil and gas business October 1,1999 and filed for social security.
Shirley and I spend our winter months in St. Martin (Caribbean) and Southern California. Our two sons and families are all busy and doing fine. We have done a lot of traveling, our biggest trip was to Australia and New Zealand. While in Sydney we visited Shirley’s sister and family. And yes, in New Zealand we saw “all 10 million sheep”.
God Bless and we’ll see you at the reunion.

After 35 years I retired from the Insurance business in 1991. Since that time I’ve sold Securities on a part time basis. We have traveled quite a bit, but decided to live in Florida in the winter and Montana in the summer. Our three children are scattered; Bob living in Budapest, Terri in Istanbul and Pat is in the Insurance business in Glendive.

In December 1988, because of heart problems I retired from the Mont. Department of Transportation as Chief Negotiator for R/W Division in Helena. Grace and I returned to Glendive to live in 1989. I have now taken over the management of the family farm south of Lindsay. I have also worked as a private contractor and have done appraisal work.
We now spend more time with our four children and enjoy spoiling our five grandchildren.
John Currens (Mary Lou)

In June of 1993 I retired after 40 years in the Finance and Banking business. I still work part-time for a local bank. In my retirement I work more than I did in my active business career, but I can come and go as I please and I am really enjoying my retirement. We celebrated our 40th anniversary in September of 1999. We have four children and three grandchildren. Both of us have health problems, but still hope we can make it to the reunion.

I am retiring as a General Contractor, spending time writing and traveling. Enjoy Europe and the Bahamas...plan to see the Philippine Islands this fall. My real treasurers are my 4 children and 5 grandchildren. I have a “big” house...so stop by if you are ever in the area. Dee R. Lynn
Thelma Dillon Gackle (Erwin)
Brockway, Montana 59214
Year 2000 finds us still living at the same place we have for nearly 50 years... (although the Post Office has changed our address 3 times!!). Our pace is much slower, however, because we are pretty much retired now. Due to Erwin’s health problems, we have put most of our land in CRP, and the rest we lease out. We’ve had no new grandchildren during the past 10 years– but have been fortunate that the 6 we have, live near enough that we can attend most of the special events in their lives.
Music is still an enjoyable and important part of our lives. A highlight of the past year was going to a recording studio with our 3 children to cut 2 CD’s -- to “preserve” our family’s music.
Woodworking and crafts also occupy a good portion of our spare time.
Jack Downs (Betty)

Not much has changed for us over the past 10 years.
We still live and farm at Lindsay. Betty and I have done some traveling but find it is easier to stay at home lately. We have 4 children and 9 grandchildren. Two of our grandchildren are married, but no great-grandchildren are planned for awhile!
LeRoy Dufner (Ann)

My life for the last 10 years has been good. Had a great success in our own business, which was Dufners Dairy. Then came time to retire from the working class. Ann also retired from Director of the Glendive Nursing Home. We both like to golf and visit our four children.
“Well, that’s all folks”. Oops, I forgot, I got a hole-in-one at our Local Golf Tournament and won a golf car. Skill??? No just luck!

I married Thomas Byrd on Nov. 27, 1993. He is a retired farmer, (he didn’t like staying alone all day) so I got to retire January 1993. Between the two of us we have 4 children, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In January of 1994 I retired from working for Farmers Home Administration in McClusky, ND. We bought a home in Billings, we are really enjoying retirement. I keep busy with quilting and various other crafts. We both enjoy gardening, also spending time in the mountains of Montana and Wyoming.
Most of our traveling involves visiting our 5 children, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson. We see quite a bit of country when we go to visit them.
Jerry and I are looking forward to celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary later this year.

When we graduated in 1950 the thought never entered my mind that we would be celebrating our 50th reunion at the turn of the Century. Gene and I are semi-retired and reside in Circle. I retired in 1997 after 24 yrs., as Secretary at Circle High School. We still have a rural mail route which was operated by Gene’s Dad, and now ourselves for 56 yrs. We raise a few Quarter Horses.
We were honored as Grand Marshall’s at Circle’s Town and Country Day Parade 2 years ago. Our 6 grandchildren play an important role in our lives. They range in age 13 to 3. May God’s blessing be with each of you as you celebrate this special event. [Gene passed away on July 8, 2000]

The last ten years have been a blink of the eye. Fred and I have retired, sold our home in Havre, and moved to West Glacier. We have a home on the golf course, so you know we try to get a lot of golf in to keep the old bones and joints moving. We have beautiful Glacier Park for our front yard.
We have two daughters, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. We have come to realize over the years, these are our treasures that get us through the highs and lows in life. We spend our winters in Tucson which is nice and warm and have made some great friends. But my heart will always be in Montana. All in all life has been good to us!!

None of my Southern Buddies wanted to adopt me, so I’ve increased my ownership in Glen Bowl Lanes, decreased my work load by 100% (I turned the business over to Joe, my nephew), and have retired in good old Glendive, Montana. Southern Buddies don’t be surprised if I show up on your door-step!

I sold the Whistle Stop in 1993. Bob still takes and active part in his farming and ranching operation. We have 23 grandchildren between us so we are kept busy attending their sports and school events. I feel very fortunate to have such a wonderful family with my children, Bob, his children and all the great grandchildren. Life has been very good and I am truly blessed.

Ivins, Utah 84738
Since graduating I have worked for an attorney, at a bowling alley and as a bank teller.
We moved to Utah in 1971 and had our own oilfield service company which lasted 16 years. Leaving the oil business, we purchased a lodge in Pine Valley, Utah.
After selling the lodge in 1992 we went into the Ratite Business (ostrich and emu) with 20 pair of our own and hatched for other ranches. It was quite rewarding for about 3 years and then we decided - too much work - too little money.
After building a new home, we decided to sell it and buy a new 5th wheel so we can travel some while we’re still able, then possibly settle down here, in a condo.
We now are kept busy caring for our 6 year old grandson Joel. He and his Dad Zene live with us. Zene is an inspector for the City of
St.George.
Harold Kutzler (Hazel)

Harold retired from Hedahls Auto Parts in 1995, and Hazel from Tab Electronics. We have three children and two grandchildren.

We have been living in Scottsdale since 1998. I retired from the 9 to 5 at that time, Bob in 1990. Since then we have had the opportunity of traveling to many parts of the world and also spending time with our combined family of four daughters, one son and seven grandchildren.

In 1988 Marie and I semi-retired from farming, but still own the farms at Lindsay.
We put some of our acres in CRP and lease out the tillable and pasture land.
My love of skiing over the years has taken me to SanMaritz, Switzerland, Kitzbuhl Austria and SunValley, Idaho. My pride and joy, as a hobby, is a completely restored 1960, 4-door Hardtop Lincoln convertible. Both of our children are married and live in Glendive.

Wow!---ten years since we’ve seen most of you. Have you noticed how time flies--but we don’t. Ha! We have kept active in our church and community. Les was on the City Council and served two terms as Mayor (1986 to 1993).
I have been in a ladies singing group called “Timeless Praise” for two years. We sing southern gospel music and have traveled Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota. The most rewarding for me was singing and witnessing at the Billings Women’s Correctional Prison and the Bismarck Penitentiary.
We are fortunate to live close to our two children and get to see the grandchildren working on the farm or see them in school and sports activities. The last few years we have been able to take several bus tours: Calgary Stampede, Custer Re-enactment, Minot Hostfest, Branson, Mo. and Precious Moment Chapel. This fall we are looking forward to seeing the highlights in Denver, Colorado.
It’s been such fun working with all of you collecting data for reunion 2000!

In 1982 I retired from US West after 31 plus years of service and opened a telephone answering service which I operated from my home for the next 10 years.
In January of 1994 I accepted a job as Parish Secretary for my church home, Zion Lutheran. This proved to be a wonderful blessing - I love the job and the people I work with. In 1964 I joined the Frontier Gateway Museum Board as treasurer and am still serving in that capacity. In January I retired from the Dawson Community College Board, after 15 years of service.

We have spent the past 19 years at the same address. We sold our sales agency business in 1991 and since then we have been working very hard, cleaning up loose ends so that we don’t have to work anymore. We may spend the next ten years on this project. Our brood of grandchildren has grown to six and the entire group lives within a 100 mile range of Raleigh, NC.
Pat and I are in the process of selling our home near Raleigh and are remodeling the beach house we have near Wilmington. There we hope to spend the balance of our elusive “golden years” watching the ocean waves from the front deck, seeing the boat traffic on the Inland Waterway and enjoying the sunsets from the back deck, while we count hurricanes from wherever.
Traveling has always been a favorite diversion, but schedule and some health issues have put a kink in recent travel plans. Our favorite trip in the recent past was a Safari in Kenya, Africa. We have still been able to get back to Montana at least once a year where we visit with family and friends. Even though North Carolina is a couple thousand miles from Glendive, we have had some great visits from some classmates.

Two big things happened in my life the last ten years. – On April 1, 1991, I retired after working 37 years on the railroad in Glendive. Then in February 1994, we sold our home in Glendive and moved to Brooklyn Park, Minn. I took up woodworking as a hobby and have a shop in my garage. I have made many things, mostly furniture for our home. I stay busy doing things I enjoy and doing them when I want to. Retirement is great! Time just flies by. —

Last 10 years...Well it’s hard to remember yesterday at my age. A 50 year Class reunion--it can’t be. Who would have “thunk” life would pass so quickly!
Steve and I moved from Glendive to Billings 10 years ago, anticipating things like - closer to the kids, the airport (in case we’d travel), the Doctors, Hospitals, choices of Retirement Apts., and nursing homes. So far the nursing homes better be in the future!! We are fortunate to have our two daughters their husbands and two grandsons living here in Montana. We have done some traveling this year; the Caribbean, Florida, New Mexico, Texas, California and the states in between visiting family and friends. We decided that one doesn’t have to travel outside of the United States. America is just as beautiful as
the Caribbean.
