Marilyn ( Anderson ) & Arky Smith
14372 W. Archer
Golden, CO 80401
Time flies when you are retired and having fun. We both still golf a lot, travel some, Marilyn more than Arky, Mideast, Scandinavia, London and this year a trip to Armenia and church history and all the eastern, north, mid-east states. Also have 13 grandchildren in five different states, so that takes a little time to see them all. The last three and half years, I had two spinal surgeries, but now in great health and golf through it all. I also spend two days volunteering at our church temple here in Denver. Not too much work getting accomplished but a lot of fun and lots of reading on slow evenings.

We both usher week-ends at the Denver Performing Arts Complex.

The last ten years have gone fast & fun. My biggest change is I now live fat free and sugar free. I wish I had done it years ago, I miss the good food but I don’t miss the other half of me. Steve and I are still on the Green Acres, he keeps it beautiful. My new career is Massage Therapy.
Charles W. Davis
3645 Hartford Ave.
Butte, MT 59701
After 41 years, I officially retired from New York Life company in April of 1996, with a six month paid leave. The retirement party was fun, the company offered me a part-time contract. “Part-time” believe me, is a challenge, but I appreciate the opportunity.
Susan teaches at Butte with the option to retire in six years. Our daughter Amy is 16, active in school, lettered in tennis. Our son Andrew is 14, loves sports and is growing up fast. Both are honor students.
I try to keep myself active and interested, by walking, golf, tennis and skiing. My best wishes to all of you. Sorry I missed the party!

We are no longer in General Construction Business, closed it out in spring 1996, I haven’t missed the bookkeeping part. We are both retired, so that gives us more time to travel in our Class A RV and going fishing. ( Jake says fishing is priority #1) sometimes I don’t agree.
We have 5 grandchildren, two boys & three girls. (Four born past 10 yrs.)
We spend lots of time doing yard work in summer and have driven many miles to see Medical Doctors for Jake, in the past three years.

I had three dreams and achieved them: to teach at a University, (36 years at U of Portland) to write, and year 2000 marked 40 years in the priesthood.
Last year after a nasty case of pneumonia, a college friend sent a plane ticket to Europe, and I was able to visit Assisi, Florence and London.
Before that trip I flew to Montana, for the Bozeman Trail Symposium where my book, “Exactly In The Right Place’ A History of Fort CF Smith, Montana Territory 1866-1868
was selling for $65. I had worked on that manuscript for 20 years and became an authority on military forts in the West.
I have been happy being a Catholic Priest, an educator, and writer, accomplished in spite of my legal blindness. I plan to learn to use well a computer and write at least two more book-length manuscripts. I am completing an article on what it is like to be legally blind. Should you be in Portland, do call me and come to visit.

Sharon and I travel every winter since I retired as an Independent Company Relations Manager from U.S.West (Mountain Bell) in 1985. Our home away from home is a forty foot Foretravel Motor home. We have spent time in almost every state in the union visiting highlights and hidden wonders in each area. The Foretravel Motorcade group is our “traveling family”.
We lost our daughter, Darla, three years ago, a real shock to Sharon and me. Our son, Dean, and family live in Colorado Springs. Our beautiful, blonde granddaughter is in college and our handsome, dark grandson is in High School.
You can guess where the last two family members stand in our eyes!
We are generally home in Helena, during the summer; give us a call when you are in town.

We seldom travel much anymore as I had major back surgery in August of last year and sitting long periods of time is painful. The healing process is not going as expected so another back surgery is in the works in the near future.
My husband and I have been married 15 years this May, so guess we are old married folks by now. I retired for the second time in 1995 and my husband retired in 1998. Guess that makes us retirees also. Our interests are Church and politics. Unfortunately my grandchildren are too far away to occupy much of my life.
My two boys are married. The oldest lives in Littleton, Colorado, and they have a girl 13. The younger lives in Fremont, California, and they have 4 children with her 2 from a prior marriage. Both boys are in the computer field (isn’t everyone these days!)

Still living and doing the “same old, same old” things. Still a side walk farmer, living in town, letting my son and his family do the farm work. I give them advice, but at my age I’ve seen it all, done it all, heard it all. I just can’t remember it all. Marvin died in August of 1999 on the farm he loved. We would have been married 49 years in October.
I have two children; M. De Wayne “Butch” Spencer, and daughter De Lora Detmers. Four granddaughters, one grandson, two great granddaughters, and along comes a pup named “Honey” with Granddaughter Paige.

The most significant event of the past ten years was our retirement from Weyerhaeuser in 1994. We worked there for 37 years. Surprising, the transition to a life of leisure has gone quite well. Starbuck’s has become a regular part of our daily ritual. We have been able to continue our interest in live theater, locally we have an excellent program at Tacoma Actors Guild with six to seven productions per season. One of these was The Importance of Being Earnest, which I hadn’t seen since we put it on in high school, in addition we get to Ashland, Ore. for several plays a year at the Oregon Shakespear Festival. The other important thing for us is watching our grandchildren grow up; one at Hamline U. in St. Paul, the younger one is in high school.

I spent 35+ years with IBM in New York State. My last position there was as Service Planning Representative to Latin America, which involved travel to Brazil, Mexico, and Venezuela. After I retired in 1991, we moved to southeastern Pennsylvania. We enjoy this more rural atmosphere, near the Amish farms in the famed Lancaster County.
Since retirement, I have enjoyed a variety of avocations– I worked with a NYS house inspection firm, worked part time in a Penn. machine shop, I ferry autos to and from auctions, and worked on the 2000 Census. I volunteer at the local school, helping 3rd and 4th grade children with math and reading skills via a computerized reading program. Home improvements, gardening and sports activities fill my daytime hours.
My wife and I are active in our local Baptist Church and choir. I serve as the adult Sunday School superintendent. We enjoy swimming at the local YMCA three mornings a week. We enjoy traveling to spend time with 13 grandchildren spread across Penn. Ohio and Kansas). Our whole family enjoys skiing, which is an annual affair. God is good, retirement is great, and I recommend them to everyone. Fond regards to all my ‘49 classmates.

I’m sorry I won’t be able to attend the reunion. Give my best regards to all.
After graduating in 1953 with a Civil Engineering degree from Montana State College, I was in the military for two years, and was then employed by the Illinois Dept. of Transportation.
I became the district engineer in Dixon, Illinois, for the northwestern part of the state.
In 1958 I married Sylvia Marie Nelles of Dixon and we have three wonderful children; Karen, 37, Gregory, 27, and Erika, 23.
After 25 years with IDOT, I resigned in 1978 to work for consulting engineering firms in Chicago, East Moline and Moline, IL. In 1984, our family moved from Dixon, to Genesco, IL.
In October 1997, I suffered a severe heart attack with complications, which resulted in my retirement. I’m still able to drive, attending my weekly Rotarian meetings to lead the singing. I also sing in our church choir and volunteer at a local nursing home as song leader and play my clarinet. ....
